The University of Toronto (U of T) is a public research university in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, situated north of the city's Financial District on the grounds that surround Queen's Park. It was founded by Royal Charter in 1827 as King's College, the first institution of higher learning in the colony of Upper Canada. Originally controlled by the Church of England, the university assumed the present name in 1850 upon becoming a secular institution. As a collegiate university, it comprises twelve colleges that differ in character and history, each retaining substantial autonomy on financial and institutional affairs.

Academically, the University of Toronto is noted for influential movements and curricula in literary criticism and communication theory, known collectively as the Toronto School. The university was the birthplace of insulin and stem cell research, and was the site of the first practical electron microscope, the development of multi-touch technology and the identification of Cygnus X-1 as a black hole. By a significant margin, it receives the most annual research funding of any Canadian university. The Varsity Blues are the athletic teams that represent the university in intercollegiate league matches, with particularly long and storied ties to gridiron football and ice hockey. The university's Hart House is an early example of the North American student centre, simultaneously serving cultural, intellectual and recreational interests within its large Gothic-revival complex.

The University of Toronto ranked as the nation's top medical-doctoral university in Maclean's magazine for twelve consecutive years between 1994 and 2005, and places 24th in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, 18th in the Newsweek global university ranking, and 29th overall in the Times Higher Education ranking.

How is life for a college student at university of Toronto?
Q. I am living currently in South Carolina and plan on attending the University of Toronto in Canada. What should I expect. Just give me all your suggestions.

A. Here are some tips: 1) Make sure you live on rez (dorms as you guys call them) for at least your first year at UofT. After first year, you can rent a nearby apartment if you want...it's cheaper. But you need to experience rez life during first year. 2) Join as many clubs as your timetable allows. UofT has 70 000 students, so if you wanna make friends, this is how you do it. I can't remember the exact percentage...but UofT has a pretty high percentage of international students. So you won't be alone. Also, like someone else mentioned, it does get cold in the winter. Just buy a huge coat + boots and you'll be fine.

How to become a dentist in University of Toronto?
Q. i am currently in high school. I want to become a dentist and go to Universiy of Toronto. What are the steps to become a dentist? Wat programs do i take at university of toronto? Howmuch would be the tuition for me? what kind o bachelors do i need?

A. I just checked the UofT website. Surprisingly, you don't even need to fully get a Bachelor's at all. You need at least three years of undergraduate study, including particular requirements (see link for more details). If it's anything like law, then a full four year undergraduate degree is likely necessary to make you a more competitive candidate. From the looks of things, some sort of biology or biochem program would be your best bet. Most of your questions are answered in the link below.

Requirements to get into Engineering at University of Toronto?
Q. I am not a resident of Canada, but I'm currently doing the International Baccalaureate in Australia and thinking of applying for engineering at the University of Toronto. Do I need to sit a SAT or some other test? Or would I be able to get into the uni with my score from the IB? If so, can you please give me more details on what IB score would I need to get into any engineering course? Thank you.

A. First off - good choice in schools! :) You do not need to do the SAT to get into a Canadian university, and yes, you would be able to get in based on your IB score. I did some looking around on the U of T's Admissions and Engineering faculty websites, and they don't give a specific minimum score for engineering, but there are general specifications. Links are below. I do know that the engineering faculty at U of T is quite competitive because of it's quality, so the higher your score, the better (obviously). I would suggest contacting someone from the faculty through email to get the specifics on engineering admissions. Good luck!
